How to Catch Poop from a 4 year old

Oh the fun times we have around our house. Our latest thrill is poop catching! How do you do that you wonder?

Just take a gander at this. Let your imagination do the talking.

The reason for this adventure? Dylan seems to be having some issues with his bowels. For the last month or so, he's had runny and/or soft serve ice cream kind of poop. Sometimes it's formed like normal. He's been having to rush to the potty to get there in time with quite a few accidents. It's a mess. He doesn't have any other symptoms and no new foods. He is still a 90% water/milk drinker and even still I have to keep reminding him to finish his milk. So it's not a too much juice or milk issue. So the ped wants us to "catch" his poop and run it in for a stool sample.

So the deed is done. Once the babysitting kids leave, I'll be running the poop in for testing. Hoping that it's nothing but a phase...

I was talking w/Jim and remembering the doggie days and wondering, "Now how the heck do you do that w/a 4yr old!" Now I see! Ahh - Just let other people complain about working conditions involved in their jobs....they have nothing on motherhood!

I am totally thinking now that taking in my pet poo to the vet isn't such a big deal!

Ooooo - we had to do this a few months ago with both Ryan and Alec. There was some (very) contagious disease floating around, shigellosis. Causes runny/loose stools and sometimes bloody stools. Can happen frequently in child care settings b/c kids just aren't quite up to par and the ol'l hygiene skills.
